Pincher Creek's Midget C Huskies' winning streak continues unabated.

On Thursday, January 24 they played the first of two Provincial Playdown games against the High Country Midget C Rockies in Black Diamond.  The Huskies won that game, by several accounts a rough one, by a score of 9-5.

On Saturday, January 26 they played another away game, this one a regular season game, against Bow Island, winning that one 8-3.

On Sunday evening, January 27 they brought it back home for their second Provincial Playdows game against Black Diamond's CAHL High Country Rockies, winning by a score of 9-3.  Doing the math, that's a 9 point difference in their first Provincials outing of the season.  Encouraging.

January 27th game: Midget Huskies vs High Country Rockies

The Midget Huskies hosted the second of two Provincial Playdown games against the High Country Rockies at the MCC arena on Sunday evening, January 27.  The Huskies were dominant throughout, harrying the Rockies' net constantly.

After a near miss by the Rockies (off the pole) in the first period, the Huskies upped the action a notch, with Will Thorpe scoring the first goal of the game at the 10:44 mark.  He was assisted by Ryan Marshall and Blair Goodreau.  With 6:02 left in the period a persistent passing game at the net paid off for the Huskies when Zach Wall made it count, assisted by Ryan Sciarra and Goodreau.  Wall was one of the Huskies' breakaway kings over the course of the game.  The Huskies were not letting the Rockies hold onto the puck for long, and Huskies defence and goalie Lane Kalbhen were quashing every Rockies attempt at a goal.  The first period ended with the Huskies up 2-0.

Quinton Campkin of the Rockies scored early in the second period at the 18:24 mark, assisted by Kedric Feil, to bring the score to 2-1.  After that, the Huskies kept the puck in the Rockies zone, hammering the net repeatedly.  At the 12:41 mark there was a beautiful long run from the Rockies end by Zach Wall, who passed it to Derek Tarcon, who moved it along quickly to Huskies Captain Brett Tarcon, in position, who just as quickly tapped it past Rockies goalie Bradley Wallator to bring the score up to 3-1 for the Huskies.  Brilliant play.  At the 9:58 mark Wall grabbed onto a pass from Lane Crawford, again skirting the Rockies' defence to knock it in, 4-1 Huskies.  Less than a minute later Tyler Campbell of the Rockies scored, assisted by Kedric Feil and Quinton Campkin.  4-2.  At the 7:29 mark Michael Roy scored for the Huskies, assisted by Freddie Bruder and Ryan Sciarra.  5-2.

The Rockies pulled a couple of penalties that hurt them in the final minutes of the second period.  With 3:52 left in the period Michael Roy scored again, this time assisted by Brett Tarcon and Lane Kalbhen, the goalie that likes to see his name on the sheet...  6-2.  Right after that, with 3:26 left in the period, Zach Wall achieved his hat-trick, assisted by Jared Koentges and Calahan Bruder.  Wall wasn't quite done yet.  With only 1:51 left in the period Wall tapped another one in, making the most of an opportunity after the Rockies goalie failed to completely squelch the puck, resulting in a scrum at the net.  Multiple attempts were made in rapid-fire succession, and Wall's was the successful one.  Ryan Marshall picked up an assist on the play.  At the buzzer ending the second period it was 8-2 for the Huskies.

The final period was more notable for an increase in rough stuff than anything else. Nothing too serious, really. Each team scored once in the period. Scoring for the Huskies at the 10:10 mark was Steven Mitchell, who in general was in good form all evening.  He was assisted by Wall and Marshall. Macaulay Scott of the Rockies got a consolation goal with 5:21 remaining in the game, assisted by Connor Brogden.

Final score: Huskies 9, Rockies 3

Lane Kahlben did a great job in net, as usual. Throughout the game we saw many examples of the Huskies' fine stick work, skating skills, and passing plays.  They've rewarded their fans with a consistently superb effort all season.  The fans have rewarded them back by coming out in droves to watch them play.
