Pincher Creek's Midget Huskies are currently holding down the #1 spot in the Spud League Standings following 3 not-even-close victories last weekend, supplanting Coaldale at the top of the charts.

The Huskies have had 19 wins and 2 losses so far this season, and have won their last ten games.   Coaldale is now in second place with 17 wins and 1 loss.  Both of the Huskies losses were to Coaldale, and Coaldale's sole loss was to the Huskies.  Coaldale has 6 regular season games left on the schedule compared to 3 for the Huskies. The Huskies have 236 goals to their credit so far this season, and only 58 against.  For comparison, Coaldale currently has 177 goals for and 50 against.

The Huskies are scheduled to play an away game against Bow Island on Saturday, January 26 at the Foremost arena, starting at 7:00 pm.

A Provincial game between the Huskies and High Country Rockies is scheduled to be held at Pincher Creek's MCC arena on Sunday evening, January 27, starting at 5:30 pm.

If you're coming to that game from out of town, here's the address:

Recent games:

The Midget Huskies played an away game on Friday, January 18, blanking Cardston 28-0.  The next day they went to Kainai, winning that game 13-3.  With on Huskies' goalie injured and the other one sick, they played both of those games with team Captain Brett Tarcon in net.  Tarcon's also the team's top scorer.  Apparently he can stop them as well as he can score them.

Midget Huskies vs Kainai
On Sunday, January 20 they hosted Kainai at the MCC arena, defeating them again, this time by a score of 11-3.  That game was, frankly, a gong show.  Kainai racked up enough penalties to require a second sheet to keep track of them all, particularly in the second and third periods.   53 minutes or more total.  2 Game Misconducts.  A Gross Misconduct.   The Huskies ended up with a fairly high number of penalties as well, and one Game Misconduct, but nothing like the scale of misbehaviours on the Kainai side.  Dirty, cheap, and bogus.  To both teams' credit, they did manage to have enough class to shake hands when it was all through, but truly there was more time spent fighting than playing hockey in the last period.  It didn't help Kainai on the scoreboard one little bit.

The Huskies scored three goals in first period, Kainai scored once. The Huskies goals came from Zach Wall assisted by Freddie Bruder, Blair Goodreau assisted by Wall and Tristan Doell, and an unassisted goal by Will Thorpe.  Kainai's goal came from Captain Bailee Benjamin assisted by Marve Calf Robe and Tucker Rabbit.  The Huskies scored four goals in the second period, Kainai scored once.  Scoring for the Huskies were Michael Roy assisted by Derek Tarcon, Derek Tarcon assisted by Ryan Sciarra and Steven Mitchell (welcome back Steven), and Derek Tarcon unassisted.  Kainai's goal was scored by Brandon Pace assisted by Bailee Benjamin and Garrett Knife.  Final score: Huskies 11 - Kainai 3.

Despite being injured in one of the dustups #35 Braeden Claringbull did a remarkably good job of minding the Huskies' net.
