As a result of the investigation, it is believed that a 2006 Dodge Dakota truck being driven by a 72 year old male from Stand Off was traveling eastbound and pulled over to the left shoulder of Highway 3. The Dodge Dakota truck was struck from behind by a 2006 Dodge Ram truck being driven by a 26 year old male from Lethbridge also traveling eastbound. The male driver of the Dodge Dakota was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. A 74 year old female passenger of the Dodge Dakota sustained minor injuries. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending the notification of his next of kin.
The 26 year old driver of the Dodge Ram was transported to hospital and treated for minor injuries.
An RCMP traffic analyst attended the scene.
Highway 3 eastbound and westbound were impassible for approximately 4 hours and traffic was diverted.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
