Starting this week at various locations throughout the Piikani Nation, Crowsnest Pass and Pincher Creek regions, motorists will be coming across several Check-stop locations. These Check-stops will be held to reinforce the message to drive sober through the holiday season.
RCMP along with Emergency Services, reminds motorists to plan ahead. With all the staff and community Christmas and New Year’s celebrations taking place, and all the travel to be with our loved ones through this Holiday Season we are encouraging motorists:
- Don’t drink and drive. It’s not worth risking it.
- Prepare your vehicle for emergencies.
- Don’t get caught on a dark, cold road without a flashlight or warm winter gear.
- Drive carefully.
- Ice and snow can make winter driving treacherous.
- Drive slowly, don’t hurry and watch for other drivers.
- Don’t be distracted while driving, pay attention to the road way and other motorists.
Even though these types of check-stops are more for informational purposes, we will still be enforcing all Provincial and Criminal Code Statutes. This will ensure that everyone, who is traveling on the roadways, has a Safe and Happy Holiday Season.
