Winter camping information for Southwest Alberta Provincial Parks

All SW Provincial Parks and Provincial Recreation Areas are open.  Many campgrounds are closed for the winter season.   Information is subject to change.


  • Beauvais Lake Provincial Park Campground — closed for the season to facilitate waterline replacement work.  The campground will reopen the spring of 2013.  Tent camping at the walk-in campsites will continue to be available subject to suitable weather and road conditions.  No services are available.  Access for cross-country ski trails this winter will be available after December 1, 2012  at the playground in the campground and at Beaver Creek Day Use Area.
  • Chain Lakes Provincial Park Campground – Camping available all year; first come first serve camping only for the winter, powered sites available, no water.
  • Lake McGregor PRA Campground-open year round, no services for the winter.
  • Little Bow Reservoir PRA Campground-closed to vehicle access for the winter.
  • Little Bow Provincial Park– open year round, all camping loops closed and no services for the winter.
  • Oldman River Provincial Recreation Area (Fort Macleod) - closed for the winter
  • Oldman Dam Provincial Recreation Area Cottonwood Campground and Chinook RV Campground and Windy Point — closed  for the winter. Day use areas are open.
  • Park Lake Provincial Park Campgrounds - closed for the winter.
  • Police Outpost Provincial Park Campground — closed for the winter.
  • St. Mary Provincial Recreation Area Campgrounds — closed for the winter.
  • Traverse Dam PRA Campground — open year round, no services for the winter.
  • Woolford Provincial Park Day Use Area—closed to vehicle access for the winter.
  • Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park Campground—open year round, minimal services for the winter, winter fees applied, first come first serve.
  • Wyndham Carseland Provincial Park — closed to vehicle access for the  winter.
