Winter storm warning issued (expired)

Note: This weather alert is no longer in effect.

Update issued at 4:27 am MST, Friday, November 9, 2012

A winter storm warning is still in effect for Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass, and Waterton Lakes National Park.

Further accumulations of 10 to 20 cm of snow is expected.

A storm system located over the American Rockies has spread an area of snow into Southern Alberta.

18 cm of snow has been reported by a weather station in Pincher Creek and nearly 16 cm was reported in Calgary. Snow will continue today with a further 10 to 20 cm expected in the Stettler, Drumheller, Brooks, Coronation, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge regions. Other regions in the warning, including Calgary, will see a further 5 to 10 cm of snow. Storm totals for this event could reach 40 cm in Southwestern Alberta. Heavy snow will gradually taper late this afternoon over the foothills and by Saturday morning near the Saskatchewan border.

Areas of local blowing snow in combination with falling snow will produce poor visibilities at times so motorists should be prepared for very poor driving conditions across much of Southern Alberta tonight through to Saturday morning.
