On the evening of October 25 Matthew Halton School held their 2011-2012 Grade 7 to 11 Achievement Awards. A large crowd turned out to witness the event, the 48th for the school. Academic Advisor Ms. Susan Robinson acted as Master of Ceremonies for the evening.

"This is probably one of my most enjoyable evenings throughout the year, as we are all here together to recognize the many achievements of our great students, " said Ms. Robinson.

Miss Alexandra Morgan led the crowd in the singing of 'O Canada', outdoing herself on this occasion. She's also promised something special for Remembrance Day.

Breckenridge

Miss Alexis Breckenridge performed an unaccompanied vocal solo rendition of 'Landslide', originally by Fleetwood Mac and made famous again recently by the Dixie Chicks. Her performance was beautiful and flawless, and the lyrics served as a poignant reminder of the fragility and changes of youth.

After Miss Breckenridge's performance Principal Ms. Sandy McDuffe addressed the crowd and her students.

"I would like to thank and acknowledge the efforts of you, the parents and guardians who continue to support your children by emphasizing the value of hard work and dedication, and promote the importance of education and doing your best," Ms McDuffe said. "A special thank you to Matthew Halton staff members ...a very caring and dedicated group of educators who, on countless occasions have given of themselves beyond expectations.to support the varied needs of our students." Ms. McDuffe also thanked the sponsors and organizers of the awards.

Miss Sabrina Stushnoff's slide presentation, "Tribute to Learning", was well received. It incorporated photo montages of many of the school's academic categories and other activities. There was a delay in its presentation due to a technical glitch that was soon resolved.

After the awards ceremony there was a chance to mingle in the main hall of the school, where refreshments and confections prepared by students were laid out for the crowd.
