RCMP Provincial Traffic Services report , Sept. 18 - 20

Last week, Alberta RCMP traffic services came across more drugs, and also found themselves in a position where astute officers made critical decisions that very likely save a life.  The following serves as a summary of some of the great work done.

On September 18th, 2012:
RCMP Traffic Services stopped a vehicle on Highway # 1, near Lake Louise, Alberta, displaying an erratic driving pattern.  Initially, the driver was arrested as it was believed he was impaired by alcohol.  However, officers soon determined that the male was instead in need of medical assistance. The male was shortly thereafter transported by ambulance to the Foothills Hospital in Calgary.  Doctors determined that he had suffered a medical emergency.     It is believed that the actions of the investigator played a significant role in saving the man's life and preventing further incidents on the highway.

On September 19th, 2012:
RCMP Traffic Services stopped a vehicle wandering back and forth in the driving lane near Lake Louise, Alberta.  Further investigation lead to the arrest of the driver under the CDSA.  Officers discovered 13 lbs of cannabis marijuana upon the subsequent search of the vehicle.  One male was charged accordingly and released on a $500 No Cash Recognizance to appear at Canmore Provincial Court.

On September 20th, 2012:
A vehicle being looked for by police in relation to a possible Criminal Code offence out of Nelson, BC, was stopped on Highway # 1, near Lake Louise, Alberta. This "look out"  was in relation to the alleged abduction of an adult female by her ex-boyfriend.    The male driver was arrested and charged for forcible confinement and later released on a $800.00 cash bail.
The female was located unharmed.

RCMP Traffic Services stopped a vehicle for a traffic offence near Lake Louise, Alberta.  During the course of the investigation, the driver was arrested under the CDSA and the search of the vehicle resulted in 1 lb of cannabis marijuana located.   A 29-year-old male from Courtney, BC has been charged.

A jeep was also stopped by RCMP Traffic Services for vehicle equipment violations also near Lake Louise, Alberta.  A CDSA investigation ensued.   Police Dog Service team was deployed which resulted in the seizure of 80 lbs of cannabis marijuana.  The vehicle has been seized and a 40-year-old male from Edmonton was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.    The male is to appear in court in Canmore on November 14th, 2012.

Throughout the week a significant amount of contraband was seized as a result of these ongoing traffic stops, which has also resulted in over $30,000.00 in violation fines being issued to offending motorists.

Police Dog Service teams continue to play a huge role as excellent police partners in the fight against drugs and the dedicated ongoing efforts to keep our communities safe from the criminal element.
