Cornfest in Lundbreck started with a hearty breakfast provided by the MD of Pincher Creek No. 9 Council J. Davis photo |
Cornfest in Lundbreck was in a word “Successful”. Held on Saturday, August 25, the day started out with a Pancake Breakfast at the Lundbreck Hall, hosted by most of the M.D. Councillors and some of their spouses. We had a great turn out and everyone was raving about Tara’s pancakes, as well as the sausage patties and ham. Thank you so much to all those M.D. personnel who catered the breakfast. It was greatly appreciated by the Lundbreck Citizens Council and by everyone who attended. Thank you also to Chris Davis for entertaining everyone during the breakfast.

At around noon, the ladies from the Eastern Star set up a table with their yummy pies and tarts all lined up ready to be sold. They continued into the afternoon, then moved into the hall to sell the remainder of their goods. These ladies work hard to sell their pies at different local functions throughout the year, so that they are able to give local high school bursaries to some lucky students. Thank you to all the ladies and Bernie Weninger for all they have done for our schools. It is very much appreciated.

The Lundbreck Citizens Council also made the draw for their 50/50 ticket fundraiser. They didn’t quite make the 3000 ticket limit, but came very close by selling 2884 of them. Lyndsey Jones from Calgary was the lucky ticket winner of $1442.00. Congratulations Lyndsey. Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets. The proceeds go towards upkeep and maintenance of the Lundbreck Hall.
Tired, hot, sunburned ball players made their way into the hall for supper, at around 7 PM, after the 2 top teams battled for the gold. Hilbert Construction were the victors over the Steel Panther/Howard Brown team. The weather was a lot cooler for them to play than it was last year when it was over 30 above. It sounds like the 4 teams that played throughout the day had a great time and we hope you’ll come back next year.
All in all, the day went very well. Last but not least, thank you so much to George Dowson for all the organizing and running around you did days before, as well as during the Cornfest. It is very much appreciated.
