Bull Trout in Southwest Alberta presentation to be held August 24 at Beauvais Lake

Salvelinus confluentus

Presented by Beauvais Lake Provincial Park and Alberta Conservation Association, Brad Hurkett  will be giving a presentation on bull trout in southwest Alberta at the Beauvais Lake Camground Amphitheatre on Friday, August 24, starting at 9 pm.   Everyone is welcome.

Alberta’s bull trout is a fascinating and beautiful native fish species; and it is a species at risk with little known about their population.  The distribution of bull trout in southwestern Alberta has declined to approximately 31% of the historic range due to recreational, industrial, and agricultural development.  The lack of data on bull trout populations is a challenge for fisheries managers.

Alberta Conservation Association has been conducting bull trout population and spawning assessments in two headwater drainages upstream of the Oldman River Dam with surprising results.  Join this evening’s presentation to find out more about this important research.
