Willow Valley a hit with movie producer

Chris Davis, Pincher Creek Voice

At the June 26 meeting of the MD of Pincher Creek No. 9 Council, Director of Operations Leo Reedyk said a French movie producer fell in love with the scenery in Willow Valley.  Sets are being constructed there, and approximately three weeks of shooting is scheduled for early August.  "Every hotel room in town that wasn't booked already is booked for this," said Reedyk.  He said the MD already has a policy in place to deal with movie shoots, including possible road closures, dust control, grading costs, and contracter fees. Reedyk also said the producer was in favour of some dust because it lent authenticity.

French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet is directing 'The Young and Prodigious Spivet', an English-language 3-D film that is scheduled for a 2013 release. The film will star ex-Albertan Callum Keith Rennie, Helena Bonham Carter, Kyle Catlett, and Kathy Bates.  Locations announced include Willow Valley, Fort Macleod, Longview, Lethbridge, and Blackie.  Jeunet is best known for directing the critically-acclaimed hit 'Amelie' and 'Alien Resurrection'.  'The Young and Prodigious Spivet' is  adapted from Reif Larsen’s 2009  novel  'The Selected Works Of  T.S. Spivet'.
