Temporary measures put in place while some systems still down
Some government services affected by the fire at the Shaw Court Centre in Calgary are back online, including court system services and high school transcripts processing.
“All the data sets that were mirrored have been tested and are up and running and available to Albertans,” said Service Alberta Minister Manmeet Bhullar. “Our first priority is to get restore all the services Albertans need. Our data recovery plan is working and crews are working 24/7 to restore systems on tape back-ups and we continue to work with our partners to minimize the impact on Albertans of the services not yet available.”
Thousands of tapes have been flown to an alternative site and are currently being restored.
Adjustments are also in place to aid Albertans, law enforcement officials, and other stakeholders while the Alberta government works to resume other affected services.
Temporary measures and limited services available include:
- To ensure everyone has the opportunity to fish this weekend, there will be licence-free fishing from July 13 to 15. Alberta’s sport fishing regulations still apply.
- Hunters will be able to access their draw results by phoning 1-900-451-3729. The $.75/minute fee has been waived until July 19. This service cannot be accessed through cell phones or those with Shaw phone service.
- Albertans can still access registry services dealing with Vital Statistics, Personal Property and Corporate Registry.
- Albertans who have already purchased a test permit, can proceed with the road/knowledge test to obtain a driver’s licence.
- Albertans who purchase a new vehicle and have a valid licence plate and registration in their name for the vehicle they are replacing, can use this on their new vehicle for 14 days within the date of purchase. They must carry proof of ownership and valid insurance for the new vehicle.
- Time sensitive land title documents such as Builders’ Liens and Health Hazards will be accepted at registry offices, due to legislative requirements.
- Government is also working with the Alberta Law Society to facilitate some time sensitive land transactions.
