Local physician to upgrade training

Dr. Jared Van Bussel

One of the community’s 11 family physicians soon starts a year’s leave of absence as he pursues more medical training.

Dr. Jared Van Bussel will temporarily close his practice at The Associate Clinic in Pincher Creek on June 21, 2012.  He will be leaving for Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to enrol in the University of Saskatchewan’s Enhanced Surgical Skills for Family Medicine program, located at the Victoria Hospital.

According to Van Bussel, he's off to Prince Albert because “It has a well-respected general practitioner (GP) surgery program”.

The surgical skills he acquires will allow him to perform C-sections, D and Cs, hernia repairs, endoscopies and other low risk, day admission surgeries.

Dr. Van Bussel plans to return to his practice in Pincher Creek in July, 2013.

“I’m very pleased with Dr. Van Bussel’s decision,” commented the clinic’s physician spokesperson Dr. Rob Cameron. “We are in the fortunate position of being able to offer ongoing care so his patients will be well looked after.

“And when he returns that will give us three GP surgeons on the roster. That means more skilled resources available to the community and helps spread the work load among them all."

Dr. Cameron went on to point out that our rural community does unusually well for physician services with 11 general practitioners, the inter-disciplinary Good Health Team and visiting specialist program.
