Thursday morning, June 14 at Matthew Halton High School the last assembly of the year took place. The fun started at around 8:45 AM when everyone started to fill up the gym in their assigned House Colors (Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow).
The event started off with the blasting welcome of some of the student council members throwing candy at the crowd. This was followed by gathering the Grade 12 students and respectfully singing 'O’ Canada'.
Outgoing Vice Principal Mr. Kirby Dietze got called up to perform his “speech” in which he announced that he will be leaving after 6 years of teaching. Principal Ms. Treit than took the opportunity to introduce the new Vice Principal for next year, Mrs. Tanner.
Next were the student recognition awards that were handed out by some of the teachers. After the awards the real fun began! There were a number of challenges thought up by the student council. These challenges would have to be won by 1 or more members of every team (Red, Green, Blue, Yellow), resulting in more points for their assigned team. The prize: a free BBQ lunch next Tuesday (June 19) for the winning team. Some of the teachers that are going away next year were recognized during this time.
After some hilarious challenges such as the most colorful House in the Gym and drinking as much juice boxes as you can within a time limit, Green turned out victorious. Green had the most points and won the cup and a free BBQ lunch. Congratulations!
After the event everyone headed outside for a year end-photo.
The last Band Concert was held later the same evening. Click here to read about that.
Have a great summer, students of Matthew Halton, and see you next year!
