Lending Scams

The Brooks RCMP would like to warn the general public of online lending scams. Recently an individual applied for a loan on-line which they thought was a legitimate lending agency. The individual was asked to send money to secure the loan. This practice is illegal for lending agencies.

The person was asked to send funds via Western Union, once the funds were transferred the person was unable to make contact with the lending agency and has not received their funds back. Should a lending company ask for funds up front to secure a loan it is a scam, please report any suspicious contacts from lending agencies to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
