Heritage Acres Director Mike Barkwith was also at the Ranchland Mall to share their plans for the upcoming seasons.
Heritage Acres will be holding a Spring Community Garage Sale on Saturday, May 12.  Tables will cost $10 each, there is free entry for buyers, there will be concessions and refreshments, and the museum will be open for the day.

After reporting their most successful year to date last year, and with many big projects in the works or recently completed, this promises to be another banner year for the organization.

Dates to remember:

  • Monday, April 16: Annual General Meeting
  • Saturday, May 12: Spring Community Garage Sale
  • Saturday, June 23: Chuckwagon Cookout
  • August 3-5: 25th Annual Farm Museum Show
  • Saturday, September 15: Fall Fair
  • Fall 2012: Volunteer Appreciation Supper
  • Friday, December 7: Christmas Church Service

The 25th Annual Farm Museum Show, themed "The Year of the Pioneer Family", will be held from August 3, 4, and 5, 2012.  There will be agricultural demonstrations, horses, tractors, vintage cars, a Craft Fair, a traditional Barn Dance, games, concessions, a parade, and a chance to see the many improvements that have been or soon will be completed. The show will feature the pre-1930 free-bodied style of car, and will still include many other varieties of antique automotives.

Heritage Acres will be holding a Fall Fair on Saturday, September 15 this year.

A growing concern
Heritage Acres had their most successful year ever last year, with record attendance and a bounty of successful events.  It is now a recognized Museum, and Manager Bill Kells' position has been increased to full-time.  Significant renovations have been done to the Summerview Hall and to the office area, which now includes a gift shop and a beautiful tea room.  The green quonset has a fresh coat of paint inside, as does the church.  The MD donated gravel, and a parking lot was excavated by the Snyder House.

The many volunteers who have contributed so greatly to the success of the operation were thanked effusively by President Rob Mitchell and Manager Bill Kells for all their hard work in the winter newsletter that was the source for much of this information.

Heritage Acres is run by the Oldman River Antique Equipment and Threshing Club.
