Serious Injury Collision on Secondary Highway 533 near Nanton
On April 10, 2012, at approximately 7:00 p.m. Nanton RCMP were dispatched to a serious injury collision approximately 30 km west of Nanton on Highway 533. Nanton Fire Department and Emergency Services also attended the scene.
As a result of further investigation, it is believed that a silver 2000 Honda Accord, driven by a lone male occupant, aged 25 years old from Calgary was traveling east on highway 533. A 2009 Black Ford Escape, containing 4 female occupants, was traveling west on highway 533. The black Ford Escape proceeded to enter into the eastbound lane of highway 533 striking the Honda Accord.
Emergency Services used the jaws of life to extricate the male driver of the Honda Accord and he was eventually airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to Foothills Hospital with serious injuries.
The four female occupants of the Ford Escape were also transported to Hospital by ambulance with undetermined injuries.
This collision is still under investigation and charges are pending. Speed is believed to be a factor in this collision.
