Due to the extreme fire hazard, fire bans are in place for several southern Alberta parks/recreation areas and Vermilion Provincial Park in east central Alberta.
Within the southern region, the following sites have a fire ban in place:
- Little Bow Provincial Park southeast of Vulcan
- Park Lake Provincial Park north of Coalhurst
- Wyndham-Carseland Provincial Park southeast of Calgary
- Lake McGregor Provincial Recreation Area northeast of Vulcan
- Little Bow Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area northeast of Picture Butte
- Travers Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area near the Town of Lomond in the County of Vulcan

Fire bans prohibit the use of all wood, briquette or propane/natural gas fires, including those contained in designated fire facilities and portable fire pits. Gas and propane stoves and barbecues, when approved for cooking, are allowed.
