Crowsnest Pass man killed in Fernie motocross accident


On Monday, April 2nd, 2012, at approximately 4:15 p.m., the Elk Valley RCMP responded to a motor vehicle accident near Lake Koocanusa approximately 75 kms south west of Fernie, British Columbia. Police investigation has revealed that two motocross bikes had collided head on with one of the riders succumbing to his injuries and dying at the scene of the accident. The group of individuals was from Alberta and were in the area riding motocross bikes on some of the back country trails. The investigation has further revealed that both riders were ascending up opposite sides of the same hill and collided upon reaching the top. All riders were experienced in the operation of motocross bikes and all were wearing protective riding gear. The deceased has been identified as a 21 year old male from the Crowsnest Pass, Alberta. No name is being released at this time pending full notification of next of kin.

The police have ruled out foul play and will continue to work in assisting the British Columbia Coroners Service with their investigation.
