3 Year Old Boy Struck and killed on Piikani Nation (Update)

On Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 4:10 p.m. Piikani Nation RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a 3 year old boy who had been struck by a pickup truck. The incident occurred in the Piikani Nation Reserve on a residential driveway. Peigan EMS were the first to arrive and the young was pronounced dead at the scene. It is believed that the boy was under the vehicle at the time of the incident, and as a result was struck by the vehicle that was pulling away from the driveway.

During this tragic event, Police received assistance from multiple agencies, including Peigan EMS, Peigan Fire, Piikani Health Service, Ranchland Victim Services, Mental Health, and Peigan Alcohol Service. These agencies were crucial in assisting in providing support and counseling to the family during this tragedy.

Police have determined that neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in this incident. Following a thorough investigation, the RCMP will not be laying Criminal Charges against the driver.

The Piikani Nation Community is a close-knit Community and as such this tragedy has affected the entire Community.
