Government Hearing and Sight Loss

Rob Bernshaw, Letter to the Editor

Good Morning Alberta,

It seems that as time passes and age catches up to us,  deterioration of our sight and hearing sets in.
This phenomena is not limited to human beings as it affects wildlife as well, including the current Progressive Conservative government.

It seems that the government of the day is more interested in listening to big business rather than to the voices of the people continually voting them back into power for the past 40 years.
There is a need for a change in the status quo, as more and more of our freedoms and rights are put in harms way,  just like the seemingly constant attack on our precious natural resources such as the Castle Special Management Area in our beautiful Alberta backyard.

Determined by a government hearing panel in 1993 to be an integral part of the health of the international Crown of the Continent ecosystem, the Castle Special Management Area was designated by the Government of Alberta as a Special Place protected area in 1998 for the "preservation of Alberta's natural heritage." It is the only one, so far of the 81 designated that is about to be clear-cut logged.

What is the fascination with clear cutting over selective cutting, or not logging at all.

Why is a designated Special Place being logged in the first place?
When will the eyes and ears of the current government be opened to the actual needs and voices of the people that have put their trust in them over the years.

People of Alberta remember to get out and vote in order to make a difference and get us out of the rut that Alberta has become stuck in, before Alberta is buried under the illusion of "All is Well in Paradise!"

We need a different dimension in the way Alberta is heading.

Is it time for a change in the status quo and a new face of Alberta governance to be voted in?
This important question will be answered in the rapidly approaching Provincial spring election.

From a very concerned Alberta taxpayer and dependable voter.

"The only difference between a rut and a grave is their dimensions." - Ellen Glasgow
