Rotary Club proposes to build picnic shelter at Juan Teran Park
Chris Davis, Pincher Creek Voice
Pincher Creek Rotary Club Club Service Projects head Dick Burnham appeared before Town Council on Monday, February 13 with a proposal to build a Rotary-funded picnic shelter at Juan Teran Park. He said the structure would be durable and low-maintenance, "preferably an enclosed shelter that could be used year-round." The Rec Advisory Board had given their approval for the project prior to him bringing it to council.
Councillor Roy Smyth asked "Would the Rotary Club be interested in maintaining it?" "Probably not," said Burnham. "We would build it, service it, and then turn it over to the Parks and Recreation and the Town to operate it and handle the rentals."
According to Burnham the Rotary Club has significant funds on hand now, and expects to raise more over the next two or three years towards the projected $200,000 to $250,000 cost of the project, which would result in a structure with an occupancy of 150 to 200 people. The project would break ground in the spring of this year.
A motion by Councillor Wayne Oliver to support the concept was passed unanimously by Council.
