RCMP Seize Killam Suspect Vehicle and .50 Caliber Sniper Rifle

The RCMP with assistance from the public has recovered the black 2000 Chevrolet Silverado with license plate UZE 545 AB.  The vehicle was seized in a rural farm yard located approximately 10 km southeast of Killam.  A .50 caliber sniper rifle was located hidden inside the vehicle.  The rifle was not loaded at the time of the seizure and no ammunition for the rifle was located inside the vehicle.  A search of the area by RCMP Police Dog Service located a loaded .50 caliber magazine a short distance away from the truck.

RCMP located the suspect vehicle hidden among various vehicles and equipment on the rural property.  The RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit was utilized to ensure that it was safe to approach the truck. The truck has been towed to the Red Deer RCMP for forensic processing.  The Special Tactical Operations (STO) and Police Dog Services (PDS) are still in the area searching for further weapons, ammunition and other potential evidence.

A .50 caliber sniper rifle is known to have a maximum range of approximately 6800 meters (6.8 km) and a maximum effective range of approximately 1800 meters (1.8 km).

The police would like to thank the public for their assistance in locating this vehicle.
