Premier expresses condolences at passing of Stan Reynolds

Premier Alison Redford issued the following statement in response to news of the death of Stanley George Reynolds of Wetaskiwin, who passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the age of 88.

“On behalf of the Government of Alberta, I would like to express my condolences to the family of Stan Reynolds on the occasion of his passing.

“Stan Reynolds was a true Alberta original, a business man, aviator, collector and philanthropist. His lifelong interest in machines of all types led him to assemble a very valuable collection which he generously donated to the people of Alberta.

“Stan was a great partner with the province in establishing a wonderful legacy, the Reynolds-Alberta Museum, in his home town of Wetaskiwin. His vision, irrepressible spirit and example of public service will be sorely missed.”

In 1974, Stan Reynolds approached the Government of Alberta with the idea of developing a new museum based on his own collection of vehicles, aircraft, agricultural equipment and industrial machines.

The provincially owned and operated Reynolds-Alberta Museum is named after the Reynolds family in recognition of the cultural and historic significance of Stan Reynolds’ donations. Mr. Reynolds made other significant donations to the province’s museums, including collections of archaeological material, military artifacts, and objects associated with Alberta’s settlement and development.
