Pincher Creek's Pee Wee Chinooks hosted the Bow Island Rebels at the MCC arena on Saturday, January 4.  The Rebels had a much smaller bench, with only 9 players suiting up.  Onlookers were treated to a quick-paced back and forth match between two very competitive teams.  The Chinooks got the edge on the Rebels in the declining minutes of the first period with a goal by #19 Ethan Richards, assisted by #18 Emily Wittkopf and #17 Whyat Bruder.

Richards was once again a phenomenon to watch, taking charge of the Chinook front line throughout the game.  He scored three more times in the second period, with assists from #11 Jenson Luco, another from Wittkopf, and one from #9 Nic Jordan. Richards' last goal in the second was unassisted, as was his goal early in the third, making for an incredible 5 goals in a row for him.  Luco scored the last goal for the Chinooks with 13:15 on the clock in the third, assisted by Wittkopf.  Wittkopf's a phenomenon in her own right, a solid and reliable player.

It looked like the Chinooks were going to have a shutout, when the determination of Rebels' #12 William Barrons finally paid off for his team with 3:45 left on the clock.  He was assisted in the effort by #15 Cale Simanton.

This was a game where the scoreboard didn't tell the whole tale.  The Chinooks had to work hard for their victory.  The Rebels were a very competent team, if a bit understaffed.  Chinooks goalies Micah Fox Blood and Matthew Duncan were frequently kept quite busy, and deserve a nod for their contributions to the final outcome, as does the rest of the team for their teamwork and focus.  There were a few sighs on the Pincher Creek side at missing the shutout, but the Rebels were highly respectable competitors, and deserved that recognition.

Final score: Pee Wee Chinooks 6, Bow Island Rebels 1
