| 2011/2012 Chinook Girls Halton Hawks |
The two teams were very closely matched, particularly in the first half. The Crusaders edged the Hawks in the first quarter by one point, 14-13. They came out strong again in the second quarter, pulling in front and staying there for most of the quarter. Halton rallied, and the score stood tied at 21-21 in the last five minutes of the quarter. Halton pulled ahead, and at the half the score was 31-27 for the Hawks.
After that the Hawks dominated the floor, getting their strong passing play together and playing to their strengths. By the end of the third quarter they were ahead by 61-46. The last quarter was much like the third, with the Hawks winning it 71-59.
Hawks #14 Sydney Reidel was a phenomenon, making a huge difference for her team with 24 points to her credit. Hawks #4 Malorie Goasdue racked up 12 points. When Goasdue has her game together she makes some incredible baskets, often from quite a distance. Her team mate Dakota Van Loon had 10 points. Van Loon was also quite notable for her ability to steal the ball back at any opportunity, and for her breakaway plays. Above all this game was a victory earned by solid teamwork. These young ladies have really worked on their passing play.
| Coalhurst vs Hawks |
One of the things that helped the Hawks to victory was the accumulation of points achieved by almost all of the team members. In this game there were definite front line superstars, but everybody played a part. 10 of the Hawks made a dent on the scoreboard, compared to 5 on the Coalhurst team, and that made a big difference towards the ultimate results.
