MD of Pincher Creek Council meeting, Jan. 10, 2012

Chris Davis, Pincher Creek Voice

The MD of Pincher Creek No. 9 Council held their regular meeting on the afternoon of January 10 after holding a Public Hearing on the proposed new Texas Gate Policy 302 (for that story click here).

Council first heard from Colette Sinnott and La Vonne Rideout, who announced they were rolling out the Early Child development Mapping Initiative in the Pincher Creek area in partnership with Parent Link (click here to read that story).

Director of Operations report
Director of Operations Leo Reedyk's report started out with a bang, as he showed Council a picture of the Speed Plow that flipped upside down in the ditch near Beaver Mines earlier in the day (click here to read that story).  Reedyk said installation of new water meters in Lundbreck was nearing conclusion.  The first readings are expected to be taken within the next two weeks if all goes as planned.  Reedyk also said two of the MD's graders had gone into the shop for relatively minor repairs.

Group Group Youth funding request
After some discussion regarding a funding request from Group Group Youth, Council unanimously agreed it was more appropriate to  forward the request to Joint Funding/Family and Community Support Services.

Tennessee Ridge development discussed
Council discussed proposed bylaw 1219-11, the Tennessee Ridge Local Area Structure Plan, which was the subject of a recent public hearing (read that story here).  Under that plan Livingstone Colony would create 28 country residential lots on land located approximately 8 km north of Pincher Station.  Reeve Rod Zielinski indicated he was concerned about the proposal, and not in favour of bare-land condos on the site.   Councillor Bjorn Berg appeared to agree with Reeve Zielinski, saying "I think it needs a bit more study.  Is the condominium model what we would be approving?"
The proposed by law was deferred by Council to a future meeting for clarification.

Council Priorities
A list of Council priorities for 2012 was discussed.  Council decided to table the list until their next meeting, so that the list could be fine tuned with the addition of a brief summary of the items on it.

KBPV gravel request denied
Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village requested a donation of washed gravel to help them with renovations to their administration building, Pioneer Place.  Director of Operations Leo Reedyk indicated to Council that they did not have washed gravel and the request was therefore denied.

Rose Society request
The Oldman Rose Society asked Council in for a letter of support for a Community Spirit Grant to expand the community rose garden at Lebel Mansion.  The request was sent back to the society asking for a draft copy of their grant application.

Oldman Watershed Council request for funding
The Oldman Watershed Council asked the MD Council for a $992.70 donation  Councillor Berg indicated he was "opposed to taxing residents with this."  He moved Council grant them "500.00 like last year."  The motion was carried, with Councillors Helen Cyr and Rod Cyr opposed.
