Citizen asks Town Council to consider handicapped parking situation at Post Office
Chris Davis, Pincher Creek Voice
Pincher Creek citizen Anne Cisar appeared as a delegation before Pincher Creek's Town Council on Monday, January 9. Cisar was concerned about the handicapped parking situation at the Post Office.
"Right now I think it's ridiculous," she said. "The handicapped parking is at the back of the building where there is no access for seniors, they would have to come down the road between the Post Office and the Royal Bank. Many times that street is icy, and that makes it very hazardous. The other handicapped parking is on the south end of the sidewalk from the Post Office, and that's not a good location either," she continued.
"When you back out your vehicle you're backing out into traffic, it just causes more hazards. My request is to move the handicapped parking to the front of the building where there is the ramp access for the ones who need it. I don't see any rhyme or reason for the handicapped parking to be at the back of the building instead of the front."
"I agree with a lot of what you are saying," said Councillor Sahra Nodge. "One of the problems that you are speaking to, about the parking at the back and the side, all of that property belongs to Canada Post, so we don't have any authority to really change those signs, but what we have authority over is adding signs to the front area that you're speaking to," said Councillor Nodge. "It would lake life so much easier for a lot of the people," said Cisar. "It's strange that the handicapped parking is the farthest away from the door," added Councillor Lorne Jackson.
"We will discuss it," said Mayor Ernie Olsen at the conclusion of Cisar's delegation.
