Editor's note: While this and similar occurrences have happened in Calgary and not in the Pincher Creek Area recently, we feel it is important the local public be informed that there is a heightened risk of potentially deadly "ecstasy" in the underground marketplace.
The Calgary Police Service is working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to investigate a possible drug overdose that was reported last night.
At approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, police and EMS responded to a report of an unconscious male on a driveway in the 1600 block of St Andrews Place N.W. The man, in his 20s, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Through the investigation, it was determined that three other individuals had been with the victim throughout the day, and were believed to have been taking an unknown drug.
The three individuals were located at another residence. While they were not in medical distress, all three were transported to hospital by EMS as a precautionary measure. These individuals are being treated as witnesses and will be interviewed by investigators.
While the cause of death and the type of drugs involved has not yet been determined, the Calgary Police Service reminds the public that regardless of the amount, taking any quantity of illegal drugs or those not prescribed to you can be dangerous.
