in exhibition play

The crowd at the Pincher Creek Memorial Community Centre Arena witnessed a face-paced thriller of an exhibition game on Friday, October 7 when the Pincher Creek Midget Huskies faced the Coaldale Cobras.  The game was a textbook example of the most thrilling kind of hockey, played by two evenly matched and highly competent teams.

The first period saw the Cobras take the lead by a score of 2-1.  It was a fast-paced game right from the start, with both teams hustling to move the puck into their opponent's end zone.  In the second period, the Huskies proved to be dominant, keeping up a relentless pace and racking up the score against a demoralized Coaldale team, knocking in 4 goals.  An unfortunate mistake by the Coaldale goalie resulted in a score of 6-3 at the end of the period.
In the third period the Cobras resharpened their fangs, dominating the Pincher team for much of the time.  The Huskies seemed tired, perhaps not quite recovered from the hard hustle they used to dominate the second period. The score kept rising against the Huskies, with the Cobras continuing to press them hard.  The Huskies were kept on the defensive, and were not able to challenge the Cobra net in a meaningful way.  The Cobras kept snaking in the goals.  With 9:28 on the clock they were definitely back in the game against a tiring Pincher team, skipping one past Huskies defence gathered at the net, bringing the score to 6-5, Pincher. The last ten minutes saw tempers flare a little, and at 7:24 on the clock Coaldale tied the game 6-6. A couple of inopportune penalties for the Huskies, with one Cobra in the box too, turned up the pressure, but the Huskies managed to hold their own enough to run out the clock.

Tie game at 6 apiece,  two very promising teams, and fun hockey to watch.
