Exciting JV and SV Girls volleyball action as the Dragons take on the Cobras

The Dale Wentz Memorial Gym at Pincher Creek's St. Michael's School was the site of some of the finest volleyball action of the season.  Our JV  and  SV Dragons Girls were up against their Claresholm WCCHS Cobras counterparts, teams as evenly matched as any I've seen.
Three JV games started the evening.  From the first volley we got to see how truly competitive these two teams are.  The JV Dragons took the first round 25-22, but it was to be their only victory of the evening.  The second round went to the Cobras 25-27, as did the third  round, 16-25.

The scores, particularly in the first two rounds, were an illustration of how close these two teams are in skill level, with some mighty fine set-ups on both sides. The score was tied too many times to count. Both teams are to be congratulated on their teamwork and sportsmanship.  What little edge the Cobras had over the Dragons was the sheer casualness of their play, the Cobras are a very self assured team.

Then it was time for the senior athletes to test their mettle against each other.  The Senior Dragons took the first round 25-18, but lost the second round 21-25. In the third round the Dragons seemed to lose their momentum, playing to a disappointing 12-25 loss.  It was too early to count them out though, as they proved by rebounding in the fourth round, acing the Cobras 25-16, and forcing a short final game to decide the evening.

It was the Cobras turn to be a little short of energy, resulting in a final round score of 15-11 for our Senior Dragons.

The Sr. Dragons took the evening, 3 rounds to 2, but the Sr. Cobras certainly earned a lot of respect for being such worthy opponents.

In summation, 8 rounds of play that really could have gone either way.  Great volleyball.  The teamwork was inspiring, and with scores this close, the contributions of individuals also played a factor in the final scores.  Every serve, every return, every effort counted.

GO DRAGONS!!!
