Coach Tom Holoboff, Pincher Creek PeeWee Mustangs
Well Mustangs football fans, it was a disappointing weekend for the PeeWee Mustangs football team as they dropped all 3 games played at Cardston on Saturday.
The day started with the Mustangs facing the Lethbridge Rams, a team that they had met 2 weeks prior in Lethbridge. The results were about the same, with the Rams seeming to perfect the outside run against the Mustangs. When the run would seem to get stopped the ball carrier would reverse and go for a long run the other way. Thane Buckingham scored on the final play of the game to make the score 4 touchdowns for the Rams to one for the Mustangs.
The second game saw the Mustangs face a new opponent in the Lethbridge Bulldogs. The Mustangs seemed to carry the play, moving the bull effectively against the Bulldogs with the defense making many stops against the Bulldogs offense. But again the long run bit the Mustangs on the butt with the Bulldogs making 2 long runs for 2 touchdowns to 1 touchdown for the Mustangs.
The last game was a disappointment for the Mustang team as the players seemed to have mailed in their effort, allowing the Cardston team to do as they wished. Cardston scored 2 touchdowns to none for the Mustangs, however the play appeared much more one-sided as the effort just was not there from many of the Mustangs. Thane Buckingham carried most of the offensive gains for the day with many long runs up the middle in heavy traffic. Buckingham, Austin Bruder and Hunter Austring made numerous hi-lite reel plays on defense but could not carry the burden by themselves as their mates did not step up to assist on many occasions.
Next up for the Mustangs is a trip to McMahon Stadium in Calgary to play on the big field. This is a high-light game for many of the players and coaches as they play on the same field as the heroes from the Stampeders.
Until next week this is coach Tom reminding everyone that everyday is a great day for football.
