It will be Mustangs versus Mustangs at the exhibition game to be played tonight, Friday, September 2, at the Matthew Halton field, starting at 5:30 pm. The Pincher Creek Senior Mustangs are up against the High River Mustangs.  Both teams dress in blue, further confusing things.  Pincher Creek will be wearing white helmets and High River will be wearing blue helmets.

Head Coach Dennis Sokownin was "really excited" at Thursday's practice.  "I'm really glad these guys could come out, " he said, while the team practiced drills.  "They're a really enthusiastic bunch of boys.  There's lots of potential here, and they've been working really nicely as a team this year."  Also at Thursday's practice were Offensive Co-ordinator Peter Brennan and new Coach Wayne Alexander, who "brings 35 years of experience to this team," according to Sokownin.
Sokownin has been coaching for years now, and his dedication to the team is very apparent.  He gets in there, making sure every athlete gets an education in the sport, and more importantly to him, an inspiration in their lives.  He asked that I include this Larry Gelwix quote, which sums up his coaching philosophy: "
"It's not about football, it's about young men.  It's not about building a championship team, it's about building championship boys who will be forever strong."

The Peewee Mustangs will be in Claresholm on Saturday, September 3, participating in a Jamboree with three other teams.

The Junior Mustangs will face the Coaldale Bears at the Matthew Halton field on Saturday, September 4.

The schedule calls for 6 regular season games.  3 games in September decide which of 3 tiers a team is placed in. 3 divisions compete, and each tier has playoff games before moving on to regular playoffs in week 7 of competition.  The final Provincial playoffs are traditionally held on the same weekend as the Grey Cup.

Upcoming Games

  • Friday, September 2, 5:30 pm, Matthew Halton field: Senior Mustangs vs High River Mustangs.
  • Saturday, September 3, 10 am, Claresholm: Peewee Mustangs vs 3 others (Jamboree).
