Museum celebrates Curator's fifteen vibrant years

Curator Farley S. Wuth, of the Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village was in for a surprise on Monday, September 26.  The Pincher Creek and District Historical Society threw a surprise party that celebrated his fifteenth anniversary of employment at the museum.   During the potluck dinner, Wuth said he was "proud to be working here, and to be serving this community."  Wuth was presented with a pocket-watch honouring his years of service.  "It will be one of my cherished possessions," he said.

Farley Wuth has been a mainstay in the Pincher Creek area for a number of years.  Growing up here, he recognized early a deep love for history.  He volunteered for the Pincher Creek and District Historical Society while he was still attending Matthew Halton High School in the turbulent 1970s, when it was called the Pincher Creek and District Museum and Kootenai Brown Historical Park.

Furthering his future in the historical arts, he received his undergraduate degree in History at University of Calgary.  Wuth chose to come back to his hometown and represent the local history, and has been the official curator for the Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village for the past 15 years.

Many know him for the weekly newspaper column that runs in the local Pincher Creek Echo, as it has for the last 15 years.  He has been collecting and preserving the past for future generations, and is currently updating "Prairie Grass to Mountain Pass", a book first published in 1974 that went out of print in the 1990s, detailing the history of Pincher Creek.  The new version will be two volumes, the first of which will be coming out in 2012.  His previous literary effort was "The History That Almost Wasn't: Chronicles of Pincher Creek's Ill-Fated Railway History".

Wuth is also famous with the younger set, in his role as "Kootenai", educating students about the history of this town, which he knows in encyclopedic detail.

Wuth will be one of the authors discussing and signing their works during the Alberta Arts Days event at Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village on Friday, September 30 from 11 am to 2 pm.
