September 23, 2011
Edmonton... Albertans are invited to join a ceremony paying tribute to the province’s 96 police and peace officers who have died in the line of duty.

These exceptional officers will be honoured at the 13th annual Police and Peace Officer Memorial Day ceremony on September 25 at 1 p.m. on the Alberta Legislature grounds.
“Alberta’s police and peace officers put themselves in harm’s way every day,” said Premier Ed Stelmach. “This special day is a reminder of their dedication and commitment to making this province a safer place.”

“Police and Peace Officer Memorial Day is an opportunity for all of us to remember and pay respect to Alberta’s fallen, and their families, for their ultimate sacrifice,” said Frank Oberle, Solicitor General and Minister of Public Security. “Society must never forget what these officers have done for us.”

Families, friends, and the public are invited to join Lieutenant Governor Donald Ethell, Premier Stelmach, Minister Oberle, and members of the provincial law enforcement community to commemorate the men and women who died serving Albertans.

The ceremony takes place at the band shell at the southeast corner of the legislature grounds. It starts with a parade near the bus terminal on 107 Street just south of 99 Avenue, traveling south on 107 Street toward the ceremony site.

This day coincides with the national Police and Peace Officer Memorial Day ceremony held at Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
