Family Street Dance equals fun, fun, and more fun

The Family Street Dance held on Saturday evening, August 20 between the 7-11 and the Provincial Building was a huge success.  Children thronged to the face painting (which was particularly good), played carnival style games at various stations, and grooved to the sound the DJ was laying down.  Papa Joe worked his balloon magic, and some parents even got to take a breather from an event-filled day. Kaitlyn MacMillan with the Pincher Creek Recreation Office put in many hours of work preparing for the event, and with a large handful of eager volunteers pulled off a wonderful family event.

MacMillan will be returning to school soon, ending her summer position to return to her studies.  Her energetic upbeat attitude will be greatly missed.  Former Town Councilor Wayne Elliott, a Grandfather himself, was beaming with delight at the proceedings.  "Kaitlyn deserves a lot of credit for this.  The kids are all having fun," he said. Resident Jeff Dwyer agreed with that sentiment.  "This is a good thing.  Anything aimed for the kids is good to see." Indeed, fun was the word on everyone's lips when describing the lighthearted event. Group Group Youth, which runs a drop-in center for young people, was also on hand running a concession stand. Michael Phipps was one of the young men helping out.  "It was a blast. The kids loved it," he said.  "Even when they got the prize at a station, they kept coming back for the fun of it." Johnny, who will be going into grade 4 at Canyon School, was clearly having a good time, an hour into the experience. "It's been fun," he enthused.  "I have a lot of my friends here."

Many people expressed hopes the event would be repeated next year.
