Coleman's Rick Rypien found dead

Rick Rypien was found dead on Monday afternoon, August 15 in his Coleman home by a family member.


Forward Rypien signed a one-year free agent contract with the Winnipeg Jets in July of this year, after taking a leave of absence from the Vancouver Canucks for personal issues last season.

"We are deeply saddened to confirm Rick's passing," said a statement by the Jets. "We would like to express our sincere sympathies to the Rypien family as well as Rick's friends."

Rypien played 6 seasons for the Canucks, for a total of 119 games.

Crowsnest Pass RCMP are reported as saying that Rypien's sudden death was not considered to be suspicious.
Rick was 27 years old.
