This website was started a couple of years ago, based on an opinion I had that our locale was not being adequately served online, particularly when it comes to news and events reporting. I made a decision to instead try working for the existing press in the area, a decision I don't regret. I learned some things during my time spent doing that. This website was pulled "off the air" at that time to avoid any conflict of interest.
I no longer work for the established local press, and I still believe our area is not being adequately served, so the Pincher Creek Voice and its sister publication the Cowley Voice are being revamped and rebooted. Because they both are essentially volunteer efforts, I don't anticipate us being able to really cover the complete spectrum of life here in southern Alberta right away. That won't stop us from trying.
This is the era of the citizen journalist, and even the mainstream press has been increasingly relying upon submitted content for material. Submitted content will be considered for publication provided it meets our criteria and standards.
I would like to thank the small but committed group of volunteer writers who have agreed to help with this endeavor, for free, for now. I hope you end up appreciating their efforts as much as I do. If you would like to contribute, please submit your material to us via email at pinchercreekvoice@gmail.com Please read our polices for submissions first, accessible via a tab near the top of this page.
Here's my promises to you, readers and writers alike: We will attempt to report the news in as unbiased a way as possible. We will uphold the highest standards of integrity possible. We will correct our errors as they occur, as they inevitably will. We will never, ever, tap your phones.
We will inject a sense of humour into our work whenever it is appropriate to do so.
Product first, monetization second. Hey, it works for Google.
We are currently establishing our ad policy, and will be attempting to sell advertising so that we can, maybe, one day, make a profit.
We will be using the modern tools to get our content to you, including social media. If there's breaking news, such as severe weather warnings, we will attempt to let you know immediately, using every tool possible. We will adapt our methods to the ever changing requirements of a web based service. This is a web-only service, also maximized for portable devices. If you'd rather read a newspaper, made of real paper, you have multiple options but this will not be one of them.
We will never chop down a tree to give you yesterday's story.
We will provide an ongoing forum for the viewpoints of our readership, as long as that input is presented in a civilized and respectful manner. Comments may be moderated, but they will not be stifled.
We are in the process of acquiring the rights to republish content from other sources in the region, primarily from independent news organizations like our own.
This is a revolutionary time for the news business, akin to the outlaw days of "The Eye-Opener" when determined individuals seized the chance to bring the news to the frontier. The internet is our new frontier, and the possibilities are endless once again.
I'm looking forward to seeing how far we can go, and I invite you to join us for the ride.
Sincerely,
Chris Davis
