The Pincher Creek Fire Brigade donated an Automatic External Defibrillator to the Pincher Creek and District Historical Society (PCDHS) on Wednesday, November 27.
"If someone is unresponsive, call 911 first," cautioned EMTs Lynn Brasnett and Marg Cox who showed PCDHS members how to use the device. The device is designed to be easy to use and has written instructions and diagrams, and will give audio instructions once engaged. Cox explained that if the machine can detect a pulse, it will not deliver a shock. The combination of electrical stimulus and chest compressions it provides have been proven to save lives.
PCDHS board member Ray Degan felt that it was very important to have this on the site of Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village (KBPV) and worked with the Fire Brigade to make it happen. Degan has planned a centralized location within the Reg and Mildred Beere Hall on the KBPV site to house the defibrillator.
"We have thousands of visitors of all ages every year," said PCDHS President Colleen Cyr. "We have individual visitors, tour groups, programs, and events. "It is of great value to be prepared in the case of an incident."
The Pincher Creek Fire Brigade is the volunteer and fundraising arm for the Pincher Creek Fire Department. Earlier in the year they donated one of these units to Heritage Acres Farm Museum.
