2015 St. Michael's Sword and Shield Athletic Awards

St. Michael School held their 2015 Sword and Shield Athletic Awards on Thursday evening June 11. Athletic Director Mr. Tyler Speelman was MC for the event. Awards and certificates were given out by the school's sports directors and coaches. They each shared anecdotes about their athletes and the past season.

Senior Athletes of the Year Mitchell Zoratti and Rebecca Lowry

Mr. Speelman expressed his gratitude for all the help his department received throughout the school year. "First of all I would like to thank our award sponsors for this evening; Jack and Shirley Rumsey, Twin Butte Simmentals, Tony and Lorraine Bruder and Family, The Pincher Creek Co-op, Bob and Margo Schmidt, Friends of St. Michael’s School and St. Michael's Athletics.  I also need to Thank Lori Jo Ettenhofer for helping me with the Award Certificates, and the Program tonight. She is amazing and I always appreciate everything she does, and it baffles me how she finds time to do all of the things she does.  Thanks to Patti Zoratti, Nicole Little Mustache and Lori Jo for helping me with the decisions made with most of the major awards this year as my athletic committee. It is nice to bounce ideas off of more than just myself.  I’d like to thank Jack and Shirley Rumsey for their continued awesomeness with the awards. Jack always does a phenomenal job with the awards and they are always done in a timely fashion. I just hope he sticks around until I am retired."

"Thank you to Natalie, Olivia, Sydney and Alex for the slideshow that we will be watching later on in the program," said Speelman.  "I am interested to see their creativity at work.  Thank you to Susan Gerber and Lori Jo for providing the very nice plants and flowers spread around the gym. Thank you to my 2nd in command, Tyler Gerber, for all of his help this year. He’s been great. Thank you to Judy Lane, our school trustee for coming tonight. Lastly, I would like to thank everyone involved in St. Michael's Athletics from the athletes, to the coaches, staff volunteers, administration, parents and guardians, referee’s and scorekeepers, bus drivers, and all of the other volunteers that helped make this 2014-2015 athletic year another success."

At the beginning of the event Susan Gerber was asked to make a special thank you to all three local media sources, and this publication was awarded Media MVP, presented by Destiny the Dragon. "To start out tonight we would like to present to you a slide show to help thank Chris and Toni from the Pincher Creek Voice for their AMAZING coverage of all of our Athletics here at St. Michael’s.  Chris and Toni, you are great and thank you so much for keeping us relevant within the community."  Thank you very much from Pincher Creek Voice owners Toni Lucas and Chris Davis, we were surprised and overwhelmed, the t-shirts will be worn with pride, and the slideshow was wonderful.
