Old Time Ranch Rodeo returns to the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site on Sunday August 10 beginning at noon.

Established in 1882, the Bar U was one of the foremost ranching operations in Canada. Now, teams of working cowboys from Alberta ranches will bring back those traditional ranch activities as they compete for silver Bar U belt buckles - and bragging rights in events including broke horse racing, team sorting, branding, doctoring and wild cow milking.

2014 marks a special edition of the Old Time Ranch Rodeo. A century ago, a series of gunshots in Europe exploded into a global conflict that changed life in the foothills forever. The Bar U Ranch will commemorate the start of the First World War with a salute to the men and animals that served. During the rodeo intermission, the “Cowboy Cavalry” Lord Strathcona’s Horse Mounted Troop will perform a musical ride, an exciting Cavalry drill and daring “tent pegging”.
