Team Alberta represented the province with pride and success at the recent 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Alberta finished in the top four of provinces with a count of 118 medals.
Alberta’s medal breakdown includes 34 gold, 42 silver and 42 bronze, with 68 medals won in the first week of competition and 50 medals won in the second week. Alberta’s medal standing compares to Ontario with 213 medals, Quebec with 172 and British Columbia with 122.
“I was so proud to see Team Alberta deliver so many successful performances as a result of their tireless dedication and months of preparation,” said Cam Berwald, Alberta’s Chef de Mission at the Games. “It was exciting to see how close we came to third place with British Columbia only overtaking us in the final hours. We also want to thank the Canada Summer Games-Sherbrooke 2013 Host Society for an incredible experience and job well done."
Team Alberta’s participation in the Canada Games is supported by the Government of Alberta through the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation. The next Canada Games will be a winter edition and will take place from February 13 - March 1, 2015 in Prince George, British Columbia.
