Pincher Creek Emergency Services (PCES) Chief Dave Cox, Press release
We have seen the problems that George Porter identified in other communities (Concerns aired about changes to rural ambulance services) that have gone to direct delivery of ambulance service by AHS. We have been able to shield our community from these problems by remaining a supplier of ambulance service. This ability is enhanced by many of our members being cross trained in both medical and fire/ rescue response creating a depth in our organization a single service provider (medical only) does not enjoy.
AHS took over ambulance service for the province in 2009.
Prior to that, municipalities supplied ambulance and our communities did that through an integrated regional service.
When AHS took over they offered the previous providers of ambulance service the opportunity to continue supplying ambulance through a contractual arrangement and our communities decided to do that.
With the support of our 2 municipal councils and our emergency service crews who are the people who make this service work we plan to stay in the business of providing ambulance service.
