Motorcycle Awareness urged
As the warm weather arrives, and streets are cleaned, the RCMP would like to remind everyone to be aware and watchful for all users of the roadways, including cyclists and motorcyclists.
It can be difficult to determine the speed and distance of both bicycles and motorcycles as they travel on the roadways, and motorists are asked to take extra caution when evaluating the time required to turn in front of, or pass these vehicles. The single headlight of a motorcycle can also cause motorists to misjudge distance, leading to collisions and near misses.
With the May Long Weekend approaching, there are large numbers of motorcycles expected to be traveling on Alberta roads, and the RCMP want everyone to arrive safely. Motorcycles and bicycles are required to obey all the rules of the road, but even if in the right, a cyclist or motorcyclist can be severely injured or killed if involved in a collision with another vehicle.
If all users of our highways follow the rules of the road, obey the posted traffic control devices, and drive without the distractions of cell phones or other devices, it will help improve the safety of our highways, and help ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable May Long Weekend.
I live a thousand miles away from Pincher Creek but I'm planning a visit in August. (On a Motorcycle) I always like seeing these types of articles.
