The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, unveiled the new Bomber Command honour, in the form of a bar to be worn on the ribbon of the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.

Our Government and all Canadians are thankful for the noble and heroic service of Canadian Veterans of Bomber Command. The efforts of the approximately 50,000 Canadians who served with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the Royal Air Force (RAF) in Bomber Command operations over occupied Europe were one of our country’s most significant contributions to the Second World War effort.

We are honouring the brave Canadians who fought for peace, freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law through their service in Bomber Command operations over Europe, in particular, honouring the approximately 10,000 who made the ultimate sacrifice. Those who served in Bomber Command faced harrowing odds, nearly half of all aircrew never made it to the end of their tour.

Lest we forget.
