Justin Nelson was a participant in the recent Chinook Multi 4-H Club 2013 Club Level Communication Competition.  The following is a speech he prepared and presented at that event.

I'm going to tell you the story about the fishing trip where I caught not one, but two of the biggest fish I have ever seen.

One warm fall day, my Grandpa, Grandma, my sister and I went fishing at a privately owned pond south of town.  Ainsley and I brought our own fishing gear.  In my Spider-man tackle box, I had a genuine white spoon that my dad fished out of the bottom of the Castle River.  My Grandma took one look at it, and said, 'You wont catch anything with that big of a hook!', but Grandpa Hubert and me put it on anyway.

I cast it into the water, and in less than five minutes, I had a bite.  I was a little excited to see how big the fish was.  As I was reeling it in, I kept saying, 'Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!' over and over.  I landed the fish all by myself.  My Grandpa pulled out his bat, and bonked it on the head.  He had brought his scale and measuring tape with him, so he weighed and measured the fish.  It was 5.9 pounds, and it was 21 inches long.

Grandpa put a chain through it's gills and through it back into the water, so it didn't dry out and float away.

I looked down the bank aways, and using my lucky spoon I cast my line in again.  a few minutes later, I had another one hooked.  Grandpa helped me reel this one in, and try to scoop it in the net, but the first fish had put a hole in it.  So he held the hole closed with his hand, and he scooped it up.

This one weighed 6.9 pounds and was 24 inches long.

Grandpa almost caught the next fish, if he'd have pulled it in... The hook and the fish got tangled in the weeds.

I cast my own line in by the fish, to try and catch it with my hook, but it got tangled up in the weeds as well.

'Sorry Grandpa, not your lucky day today.'

It was getting late, so we decided to call it a day.  We packed up our gear and fish and went home to show mom and dad the catches of the day.  My next door neighbours like fish, so we gave them one and Dad stuffed the other one full of lemon, and cooked it in the oven for supper.  It was delicious. A few days later, we caught Grandpa in the fishing department, buying the exact same hook that I had.

I can't wait to go back and use my lucky spoon to catch some more giant rainbow trout.  That is the end of the story of my best fishing trip ever.
