The St. Michael's Senior Boys basketball squad defeated local rivals the Livingstone Sabres and the Halton Hawks in games they hosted at the Dale Wentz Memorial Gymnasium this week.


Sr. Boys: Dragons vs Sabres

The Dragons hosted the Sabres on Monday evening, February  11. It was to be the last game some graduating members of these teams would play against each other after many years of rivalry.

Nathan Bruder dunks another one

The Dragons got off to a solid start in the first quarter of this game, in large part due to an 8 point scoring spree by Nathan Bruder.  At the end of the quarter they were up 18-16 over the no-subs Sabres.

In the second quarter Gabe Rainford of the Dragons made a sweet 3 pointer, the beginning of an amazing 11 point scoring spree for him.  The Dragons were really working the rebounds and demonstrating their authoritative passing game.  Ross Cook of the Sabres scored 6 points in the quarter, including a tricky shot from under the net.  The two teams were much closer than in the first, with the Dragons scoring 16 points to 14 for the Sabres, putting the Dragons ahead 34-24 at the half.

In the third quarter Cory Geddes scored another amazing 11 points for the Dragons, and Jared Pittman gave a clinic in three-pointers, twice.  The Sabres were left in the dust for the quarter, with the Dragons scoring 22 points to 10.

Going into the final quarter the Sabres were down 56-34.  Aaron Brown stepped up for them, scoring a three pointer, making a penalty shot, and then scoring 6 more points in the quarter.  Cory Geddes scored 6 points for the Dragons.  The Sabres outscored the Dragons 19-11 for the quarter, but it wasn't enough to change the ultimate outcome.

Final score: Dragons 67, Sabres 53.

Top scorers for the Dragons were Cory Geddes with 22 points, Nathan Bruder with 18 points, Gabe Rainford with 16 points, and Jared Pittman with 8 points.

Top scorers for the Sabres were Aaron Brown with 20 points, Ross Cook with 15 points, and Morgan Cook with 8 points.

Sr. Boys: Dragons vs Hawks

Dragons vs Hawks

On Wednesday evening, February 13 the Dragons hosted the Halton Hawks. The best quarter for the Hawks was the first one, when they scored 15 points to 23 for the Dragons.  After that it pretty much turned into a rout, with the Dragons controlling the game and seemingly scoring at will.  The Dragons won this one by a score of 97-41.

Top scorers for the Dragons were Nathan Bruder with 29 points, Gabe Rainford with 26 points, and Jared Pittman with 18 points.

Top scorers for the Hawks were Graham Milligan with 19 points and Teigan Lissel with 10 points.

Chinook League Tourney
The Chinook League Championship Tournament is scheduled for March 1 and 2, with Girls teams to play at Matthew Halton School and Boys teams to play at St. Michael's School.  More information as it comes.
