Westwinds JV and SV Boys Volleyball - Flyers defeat Dragons

On Monday evening, September 22 the JV and SV Boys Dragons volleyball teams hosted their WCCHS Flyers counterparts at the Dale Wentz Memorial Gymnasium. The Flyers teams won all six games.

JV and SV Boys Dragons Coach Tyler Speelman is working with a young team  of 12 players who have been joined by one Matthew Halton player, Ryan Plante. The Dragons have one grade 12 player, one grade 11 player, and the rest of the team are made of grades 9 and 10.  Speelman says that he likes coaching with both the JV and SV teams, because then it creates a strong continuity.  "We practice together, it's coming along.  JVs and Seniors have each played two games, they are learning a lot of new stuff this year, and it's going to take a few games to get into it.  I'm hoping that by mid season they will start to learn where they are supposed to be in positioning."

Speelman has been teaching more about the attack.  "They're learning the more I attack, the more fun I have.  Attacking, diving for the ball, and building your teammates up is what volleyball is all about.  We have come so far already.  They are bringing such an energy to the game.  When you're up, and motivated, you'll have a better game.  It's fun for me to see them come together already, and I'm really looking forward to the last part of the season, and next year. It's a building process."
