Gayle MacIntyre's Grand Champion prize winning photo of Keith Walper

Chris Davis - Pincher Creek's Gayle MacIntyre won Grand Champion out of all categories at the Southern Alberta Summer Games for her photo of Keith Walper, her father in law.  She was also awarded Bronze in the Portraits category for her photo of Renee and Taylor Feist.

"I didn't really get into it until I was in my 30's," said MacIntyre, when asked how long she's been taking photographs.  "I love it."

She's a self described "enthusiastic amateur".  She can be seen at kids sporting events quite regularly, clicking away as her children play.  Her work has appeared in the Pincher Creek Voice many times.  "They were discussing the sports category, so I started showing him, the man that gave me the medal, not the judge, my phone (with various sports photos on it), and I got to hear a professional's feedback.  He said 'Why didn't you submit some of these?'"

"I love portraits, though.  I do like taking pictures of peoples faces.  I love that the best.  I like taking pictures of animals and wildlife too,  but I love taking pictures of people."

She credits Janelle Jorgenson for encouraging her to enter the contest.  "She was showing me her awesome pictures, and I was excited for her.  Then she said 'You put some in, go do it.' "  MacIntyre submitted her photos one hour before the competition closed.  She said she certainly didn't expect to win.

"I was surprised, because there a lot of  really great pictures there."

In the recent past Gayle was very busy running around town donating her time to Pincher Creek's soccer and football teams, taking group and individual portraits for them.
