Organizations that need volunteer help in flood affected areas of the Foothills

Courtesy of Gazette Grande and High Country Rural Crime Watch Association

The following is a list of organizations working to help flood victims throughout our area. They need any help, whether personal or financial, that you can give. If you know of any other organizations that also need help, please contact us by E-Mail at hcrcwa@hotmail.com so that we can update and circulate revisions to this list as they come in.

Situations can change quickly, so the High Country Rural Crime Watch Association is not coordinating volunteers. Please contact individual organizations directly. May we please also ask you to circulate this list among your neighbours and friends.

Food Banks

Okotoks Food Bank presently has no more room for goods but would welcome financial contributions. The Okotoks Food Bank is supporting our communities and towns [Okotoks, Turner Valley, Black Diamond, High River, and Foothills]. Mailing address for the Food Bank is Box 942 Okotoks AB T1S 1B. Phone: (403) 651-6629.

Food items can be dropped off at the Safeway, Sobeys, and Costco in Okotoks

Turner Valley Food Bank: Turner Valley & Black Diamond are cut off from each other because of the Bridge closure in BD.

Turner Valley has a good supply of food, but many users cannot reach them.

A temporary Food Bank has been set up in Black Diamond at the Gospel Chapel

Animal Rescue Groups

Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue in High River at www.heavencanwait.ca, email hcw@telusplanet.ca, Mail to Nanton Vet Clinic Box 580 Nanton AB TOL 1R0

Pound Rescue, Okotoks, www.poundrescue.com, Phone (403) 938 4890, Mail Box 1446, Okotoks T1S 1B4

Both groups have been actively involved in rescue in High River as well as housing animals from displaced families. Their greatest need is to find temporary foster homes for animals until their owners can return home or find accommodation for themselves and for their animals.

Fostering homes would be provided with food, and any veterinary costs would be paid by the rescue groups.

Cash donations to assist would be gratefully accepted.

Currently they do not require any more items, but they expect that to change in the next two weeks when families are able to return home. Virtually everything needed to supply a home may be required: furniture, housewares, linens, towels, etc.

They presently have a good supply of clothing, so nothing further is required at this time Flood victims receive items at no charge

The Centre is in need of volunteers to assist with sorting clothing and stocking shelves. No heavy work is involved with this. They are also in desperate need of strong young individuals who can assist with heavier cleanup.
